Housing Studies Charitable Trust Early Career Fellowship
–
Funded by Housing Studies Charitable Trust.
This fellowship will examine how the creation of housing legislation is shaped by the assumptions and conceptualizations of the solicitors and parliamentary draftspeople that create it. Under the mentorship of Prof. Kim McKee, the fellowship will deliver new empirical research with Scottish Government solicitors and parliamentary draftspeople concerning the conceptualizations of housing in Private Rental Sector (PRS) reform and the development of theoretical and methodological frameworks to analyse this data. The fellowship will also deliver an innovative project for non-academic impact, through the development of a ‘serious game’ with Socialudo, directed by Stirling colleagues Prof. Vikki McCall and Prof. Alasdair Rutherford. This project element would deliver a serious game for lawyers and housing stakeholders, such as tenants’ unions and landlords, to rethink the creation of housing legislation, drawing on data from the empirical fieldwork. The focus of this project on understanding the socio-legal dimensions of housing law and practice ties directly to the University’s core missions of spaces, places and lives.
