Biological and Environmental Sciences Stirling
I am a Lecturer in Earth and Environmental Chemistry with a research focus on the biogeochemical cycling of iron and its environmental implications. My research is interdisciplinary and covers a range of topics. This ranges from investigating the role of iron cycling in salt marsh ecosystems and its influence on nutrient fluxes and contaminant mobility, to the long-term corrosion of historic iron-hulled ships in marine environments.
Currently, I am on full secondment as a Research & Development Fellow at the UK Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra). My work supports evidence-based policymaking in the Soils & Peatland Evidence Team.
Before joining Stirling, I acted as a lecturer in the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol. I earned my PhD in Environmental Engineering from Newcastle University and later worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Soil Chemistry Group at ETH Zurich (Institute for Biogeochemistry and Pollutant Dynamics).
